Hayze growled. There had to be a reason he was sent here other than to find out that there was no asset to be found. He did not suspect simple poor planning on his client’s part. No, there was something more. They knew each other and his client had wanted something like this to happen.
He glanced out across the room. The man with the staff had not just closed the door but he had left the building. Now there was nothing to stop him from completing his task. His client had not discouraged Hayze from harming the man before him. If there truly was no merchant license to be found, then this was all that was left to do.
Still holding the man with the added strength of his shadow, he raised his right arm. ”If you will not tell me, then I will ask it of your blood!” He once again summoned his truth-giving dagger and stabbed it toward the man’s chest.
If he truly had no idea why someone would come seeking his merchant license, then simply cutting the skin would get him no further. He sought the heart and the secrets it held.
