The Hullabaloo at Maroo [Past]
#31
Man, these guys were sneaky! Riesig had to actually pay some attention to notice them. He didn't quite notice where his companions had chosen to hide. So he hoped it was across from him. He sprung from the bonfire grabbing the flames as he did and made to have them envelop the sneaky man.

Arl had nodded towards Rand, and was about to see what she could do about the split foes when Riesig decided the fire safety course had begun.

Gah! The surprised warrior wasted no time leaving her hiding spot, lashing out with her spear before she even finished standing up. Her target was the pink-wearing man's saber; if she could engulf it in a blue-tinted hostility lens it'd turn this mutual pincer back into a one-sided one.

Riesig's target jumped back in surprised as he leapt from the flames, lashing out wildly as flames flowed through the air towards him as though they were possessed. His wild slashing did little to keep the campfire flames off him, but did serve to make Arl's spear strike miss its intended target.

Arl's spear cut a small nick in the man's trousers, drawing his attention towards the fey warrior.

"What th- A little help Dietri!?" he called out, sounding a little panicked.

Riesig takes advantage of the man turning towards Arl by double casting Shards to draw the moisture of the river into throwing shards. And then throwing all 6 ice daggers at the man's legs, since he was told to try and not kill them instead going for incapacitating. Meanwhile, he had his mist flow outwards to find the Dietri fellow so as not to be surprised by his position.

"Surrender or die!" proclaims Arl as she once again tried to slap her spear against the man's sword. By this point the woman had fully risen to her feet and had begun entering a more defensive posture.

While the stranger was creeping forward, Drevin slowly made his way around the right side of the faux encampment, his axe drawn and in his hand. The short man had time to contemplate the blood pounding in his temples as Riesig seemed to burst out of the fire pit in slow motion. "Not yet Drev." He crouched near a bush and gripped the handle of the axe tightly enough to feel the grain biting into his skin. When he hears the man call out for backup his senses caught fire and he searched evenly across the clearing for the new enemy. If he sees him or if the enemy steps forward at the callout, Drevin would throw his axe at the new foe.

Several things happened at almost exactly the same time.

A bandit took several shards of ice to the back of the legs, and fell forward and down as a result.

A spear that was meant to disarm instead stuck into a stumbling abdomen.

Mist spread out over the entire clearing, finding nothing unexpected.

Riesig's leathery skin split open at the shoulder, releasing a small spray of crimson.

Drevin noted a small ruffle of leaves on the opposite end of the clearing to Riesig.

Arl frowned, but she'd long ago learned to not let such things distract her too heavily.

She immediately stepped back and down, slightly pulling out her spear and angling it towards the stumbled man's neck as she lowered her body. There was still a second bandit.. somewhere beyond her current foe... and she had no desire to be taken out while finishing things here. That said.. "Last chance."

If he didn't stop now, then he would die.

Riesig was not happy about that. His hair erupted into Phantom Flames as he reacted to the attack on himself. He turned around and looked in the direction the strike would have come from. He also reached back to the wound to see what type it was. Things were not going to go well for the one who did that.

Although he couldn't actually recall, Drevin figured he hadn't lived this long by ignoring his instincts. A shred of doubt flickered across his adrenaline soaked mind too late as the axe handle almost jumped from his hand. As quickly as it came he wiped the feeling away and sprinted immediately after the deadly projectile. Second thoughts were better contemplated when one was in less mortal danger.
