[Outer Verto] Skaylen's Workshop
#21
Ria nods as they explain what they have come up with to her. She smiles " Wow, you guys are REALLY good at this! It would have taken me all day to come up with that!" A little.. too good she thought to herself, but she had no reason not to trust them although she kept that in mind for later thought. Ria called Silkie to her and smiled. "Then we should ask Skaylen who he has been in contact with recently... since you three are most knowledgeable I suggest possibly one of you ask the questions. Silkie will accompany. Silkie giggles as she understood what Ria meant. Due to being a wind sylph she had an amazing understanding when it came to air, including breathing. She was able to tell if anyone was holding their breath or if their breathing pattern changed even a little bit. Although.. only Ria and Silkie knew about that little tid bit. "I am going to see if there was anything.. unusual about the cask of oil. I know that oil is valuable, but there is enough around the town, maybe there was something special about it." Ria walks upstairs to check the smear of oil hoping her knowledge in building, smithing, and metal working that she could identify anything unusual about it.

Kage had reached a similar conclusion. The lack of disarray upstairs was a real clincher in that thought. As Ria went totally to Skaylen, he added a question on top of Lilly's. "Just in case this isn't entirely a feint, find out if he kept anything down here that was rare or difficult to come by."

When Ria was outside he moved closer to Lilly and lowered his voice. "This job is too dirty to be a pro, and too clean to be a novice. If it were me, and I wanted to hide my target, I would leave no trace there but make sure to snatch other random bits that were obvious. Make it harder to identify all the things missing. But they took only one thing...at least just one he is telling us about. And I find it hard to believe that was just a regular cask of oil, stuff is in a lake down th road if they really needed some. Either it was a part of his experiments and is more dangerous to someone who knows how to use it; they got something much bigger and he is hoping it will come back with the cask; or it was a small group with minimal knowledge of the job. Told to get something , but not sure how to do clean. The kind of effort needed to blast those hinges from a water mage means they have some power behind them.

I wonder what aspected auroil that was. If it was fire, maybe you could burn the trail and follow it? See if you can figure that out while I go talk I suppose."

He went out to talk to the employer. "We need more information about that oil. Want to talk out here or step back inside?" He could at least respect that maybe this guy had some secrets he wanted out of the public.

Skaylen shrugged, showing no signs of any preference.

"Anything you want to know." he offered.

Ria found that the oil smear on the counter was definitely thicker than she was expecting. It wasn't even a spill per say more like a grease stain, obviously whatever was containing it was not doing so with 100% efficiency.

Silkie was too distracted to overhear Kage's complete conversation with Lilly. Something about oil and talking to Skaylen. She brought her attention back when Kage walked outside to speak with Skaylen. She flittered around and began examining Kage and Skaylen's breathing pattern to see if she could find out if Skaylen was being untruthful or hiding something, or even seemed surprised.

Ria took out a cloth out of her pocket and wiped up some of the oil and wafted the smell into her nose. She had been around enough oil due to her father's line of work that she was familiar with most oils. She tried to identify it by the color, consistency, smell and.... wait.. the smell.. it smelled.. familiar somehow. As she was trying to figure out what exactly this oil was, she looked closer for any signs of fingerprints, or clues. Surely an oil so thick would have stuck onto the thief somehow. A thought crossed Ria's mind... 'If this is what I think this is...I don't think he is suppose to have this. At least not within these city limits.' Ria paused and thought 'Then again, a lot of the things in my house are not suppose to be within these city limits...'

Lily nodded at Kage's comments and allowed him to go and talk with Skaylen. Heading upstairs she popped her head over Ria's shoulder.

"Is that... concentrated?" she asked.

"Very well then. Were you present when it was stolen, or do you know how they got in? Who knew you had that, and where you kept it? Are you completely.certain that was all they took? And what exactly were you doing with so much of that stuff?" The reasoning behind his questions didnt ness to be said to him. He just needed to answer so things went smoother.

Ria nods, "Yes it is... I think I may know what it is.. it smells familiar. Although.. what type.. I am unsure of. My father used to use concentrated fire auroil for some of his more complex pieces of work. It's thickness is similar.. although I wouldn't try lighting it out in the open we should find a fireplace to check that out in.. or at least somewhere where this wont burn the place down... or Skaylen could just tell us. Although, I know that recently they are trying to put a ban on concentrated fire auroil here in town.. too many burned down houses... might be why people are stealing it and hoarding it...." Ria smiles and carefully scoops up more of the oil with her cloth and folds it carefully not to get any on her hands.

"Alright. In order... I was out shopping when it happened. I don't lock the lower floor because people come by to look at my work or wait for me. The only people who knew I had it were the courier from work and my immediate bosses. The only people who knew exactly where it was were my housekeeper, Lutensia from next door and the... courier..." Skaylen began to trail off.

"That feeling right there. That is usually a good sign for figuring this out. What did you just remember? And the other answers, please." KAge would check out the housekeeper briefly, but the courier seemed most likely the source.

"The courier who delivered the cask took it upstairs... he would have had an idea of its value based on what he was told at work." Skaylen explained the thought.

"As for the cask... I was experimenting with it. Its concentrated auroil... disaligned." he added.
